Mood: waiting for wind
11th July 2010
Windsurfing: Camber - Jurys Gap
Wind Direction: SW
Wind Stength: looked windier than it was
Surf / Sea State: flat going camber coastal
Air Temperature: toasty
Sea Temperature: fine
Weather: sunny with tease of proper wind
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Lots of promise about today ... got there 9 ish and was looking promising. So much so I rigged the 5.9m Duke and plugged it into the Freewave 115.
Then it eased off a little, just as Stu launched and struggled to get going at all on his 5.8m & 118 exo combo.
Not being one to be beaten by such conditions, I just rigged the 6.9m Duke and plugged it into the Freewave 115, and left the 5.9m rigged, optimistically perhaps, plugged into the Freewave 95.
Weather wasn't really playing ball for some reason, and even on the 6.9m I struggled at times. Wasn't so bad getting planing, but being onshore wind, planing cost ground ..... so bogged bag to beach to chill for a bit.
Grabbed a bit of scoff and some fluid, and then it filled back in as I filled back up ... PLAYTIME.
Not taking any chances, I stuck with the 6.9m and had quite a fun session, including outrunning the range boat at one point as it seemed intent on pursuit, despite me opting to gybe plenty of distance upwind of where they were loitering / fending people off.
Lots of people down for the sunshine, and quite a nice vibe down the beach .... probably because it was high tide and the fill was gradual, not a mass onslaught from bacon butty o'clock.
As the tide exposed more sand, the wind eased off and we re-convened to chill, de-rig, and head home, leaving the scraps to the kiters to make the best of the rest of the afternoon, and early evening.
Shame I didn't get on the 5.9m, though at times there seemed to be plenty of wind, but I wasn't overpowered or desperate to change down ..... nice to get a summer sail with some waves to wiggle on, between the bump and jump fest that was served up.
ION Man event next weekend, reckon it'll be windy too :-)
